Sometimes known as 'Little Tibet' it has a unique culture based on Tibetan Buddhism and its abundant monasteries, chortens and mani-walls testify to this. Over the millennia the people have developed a unique way of life in tune with the harsh environment, indeed many families have worked on the same farmstead for hundreds, if not a thousand years.
